Kryptos is a sculpture by Jim Sanborn at the headquarters of the CIA in Langley, Virginia. Sanborn built it in 1988 at a cost of $250,000, and it was dedicated on November 3, 1990. Retired CIA employee Edward Scheidt helped design its ciphers. The article does not name a commissioner.

The work is an S-shaped copper screen carrying encrypted text. It measures 11 to 12 feet (about 3.5 meters) by 20 feet (6 meters). Its materials include copper plates, granite, quartz, petrified wood, wood, water and plants.

The screen holds four messages, and three of them have been solved. The fourth message remains unsolved. The article does not name an architectural style.
