Koblenz Hauptbahnhof stands in the Neustadt district of Koblenz, below Fort Großfürst Konstantin. It was built from 1899 to 1902 to a design by the architect Fritz Klingholz and opened on 1 May 1902 as the Centralbahnhof. The building is neo-baroque, with facades of tuff and yellow sandstone. It is 315 feet (96 meters) long and has a central pavilion and side pavilions.

The northern wing held a richly decorated royal room, and Kaiser Wilhelm II arrived at platform 1 in 1905. Air raids damaged the building in the Second World War. Reconstruction began in 1946, but the platform hall and tower were not rebuilt.

About 40,000 people use the station each day. It lies within the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site, listed in 2002.
