Klungkung Palace, or Puri Agung Semarapura, stands in Semarapura, the capital of Klungkung Regency on Bali, Indonesia. It was built at the end of the 17th century, after Dewa Agung Jambe I took Gelgel in 1686 and founded a new court to the north. The compound was square, roughly 150 meters per side, and its main gate bears the date Saka 1622, or AD 1700.
The Dutch conquest largely destroyed the palace. A puputan, a fight to the death, took place on April 18, 1908, after which the palace was largely razed. Two buildings survive in the northeastern corner.
The Kerta Gosa, a Hall of Justice, has ceiling paintings in the Kamasan wayang style showing the punishments of the afterlife. The Bale Kambang is a floating pavilion with no walls, set in a moat, and its ceiling has six tiers of paintings.
