Kiruna Church was designed by Gustaf Wickman and built from 1909 to 1912. Hjalmar Lundbohm, the LKAB manager who founded the community, commissioned it, and LKAB funded most of the construction. It was consecrated on December 8, 1912. The article calls the exterior Gothic Revival, the interior National Romantic and the altarpiece Art Nouveau, with influences from Sámi huts and Norwegian stave churches.
Wooden shingles clad the walls and roof, and twelve gilded bronze figures by Christian Eriksson decorate the roof. The building measures 131 by 131 by 121 feet (40 by 40 by 37 m) and weighs 672.4 tonnes. A 2001 poll voted it Sweden's most popular building from before 1950.
Because of subsidence from the Kiruna mine, it was moved about 3 miles (5 km) east in two days, August 19 and 20, 2025.
