Khatyn is a memorial complex on the site of a Belarusian village burned in a massacre on March 22, 1943. It lies in the Lahoysk district of the Minsk region, about 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Minsk. It was named the national war memorial of the Byelorussian SSR in 1969 and was renovated in 2004.

Sergei Selikhanov made the central sculpture, Unbowed Man, which shows Yuzif Kaminsky holding his dead son. A monument of three birch trees carries an eternal flame in place of a fourth tree, for the Belarusians who died in the war. A wall of niches honors concentration camp victims, and a Cemetery of Villages holds 185 tombs.

Bells ring every 30 seconds, marking the rate of Belarusian losses during World War II. Khatyn drew 182,000 visitors in 2011, one of the ten most visited sites in Belarus.
