Kaunas Archcathedral Basilica is the largest Gothic church in Lithuania. The article attributes its founding to Grand Duke Vytautas the Great and names no architect. The infobox lists Late Gothic and Brick Gothic. Built of red brick, it is 276 feet (84 m) long, 92 feet (28 m) high and 112 feet (34 m) wide. It already stood by April 22, 1413, and construction was concluded in 1624.
The war with Russia damaged it severely in 1655, and it was rebuilt in 1671 with Renaissance features. A fire in 1732 destroyed the interior and brought down both towers. The interior was reworked in Rococo style, and one tower was rebuilt in 1771. The present form dates from a renovation completed in 1800.
It became a cathedral in 1895 and a minor basilica in 1921. It was designated a national cultural monument in 2002.
