Kastellet in Stockholm is a round castle tower. Erik Dahlbergh designed the first fortification, built in 1667, and Fredrik Blom designed the rebuild of 1846 to 1848. The article names no client or style. It has red brick walls and a stair tower about 66 feet (20 m) high.
Dahlbergh became director-general of fortifications for the Realm of Sweden in 1676. In 1680 the fleet moved to Karlskrona and the castle fell into disrepair. An explosion in June 1845 preceded the rebuild.
During World War II it became part of Stockholm's permanent air defense, and the tower received fast-firing anti-aircraft guns. The Swedish Coastal Artillery training school left in 1990. On May 17, 1996, Norwegian expatriates temporarily raised the Norwegian flag in the tower. A military ensign is raised and lowered daily, signaling that the nation is at peace. The article gives no hours.
