The Kadokawa Culture Museum stands in Tokorozawa, Saitama, on Japan's Musashino Plateau. Kengo Kuma and Associates designed it with Kajima Design, and it was completed in 2020. The design draws on the tectonic history of the region.
Its exterior is clad in about 20,000 granite pieces quarried in China, a pattern called Black Fantasy, with white spots on a black ground. A steel frame carries the stone cladding, and the building is steel-framed reinforced concrete. The total area is 87,433 square meters (about 941,000 square feet).
The museum and a library share the building under an idea called Edit Town, with a central gallery surrounded by libraries. Six walls of different angles separate the two. Book Street has 44 cedar plywood shelf units, each 1.8 meters wide and 2.4 meters tall, set in an irregular rhythm.
This building has no Wikipedia article. Facts come from Architecture Lab, Kadokawa Culture Museum.
