Jawahar Kala Kendra at Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg in Jaipur was designed by Charles Correa for the Government of Rajasthan. The design was prepared in 1986, when construction started, and it was completed in 1992. The article says it was built to resemble a red fort, with no windows on the facade.
The plan is a nine-square grid based on the Navagraha mandala and Vastu Vidya principles. One square is displaced to form the entrance, and the two central squares are combined. Square enclosing walls are 8 meters high.
Eight blocks hold museums, an amphitheater, an auditorium, a library of 20,000 books, galleries, a cafeteria and an art studio. It has an enclosed theater called Rangayan and an open-air one called Madhyavati.
