The Igreja de Santa Clara stands in the parish of Sé in Porto. It was built alongside the Santa Clara Convent for nuns of the Order of Poor Clares. Construction began in 1416, the nuns settled in 1427, and it was completed in 1457. New bedrooms for the nuns were built from 1707 to 1715, and the chapel was expanded in 1729. The fountain in the yard was demolished in 1931.
The interior is covered in gold and polychrome decoration. The convent and church lie in the historic center of Porto.
The church has been a National Monument since 1910. It has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Centre of Porto since 1996.
