The Howard Hamilton Mackey Building stands at 2300 6th Street NW in Washington, D.C. It houses Howard University's College of Engineering and Architecture. It is named for Howard Hamilton Mackey Sr., a longtime dean of the School of Architecture and City Planning who served at Howard from 1924 to 1973.
Design I through VI studios fill the ground level and mezzanine. Design VII and VIII, for fifth-year students, are on the second floor, where the George T. Silcott Gallery hosts exhibits and final design juries. A former architecture library is now the Innovation Space.
The building also has a 184-seat auditorium, a fabrication lab with a woodshop, metal shop, CNC router and laser cutters, and an advanced graphics lab. Under Mackey's leadership as director, Howard became the first historically Black college or university with an accredited architecture program. The sources give no architect or completion year.
