The House of Hungarian Music stands in City Park, called Liget, in Budapest, as part of the Liget Budapest Project. Sou Fujimoto designed it, and it opened on January 23, 2022. The building has 9,000 square meters (about 97,000 square feet) of floor area.
Its undulating roof stays below the tree canopy of the park. Nearly 100 crater-like openings let the existing trees pass through and bring light inside. The glass facade has 94 custom heat-insulated panels, some almost 12 meters (39 feet) tall, and it blurs the line between inside and outside.
The suspended ceiling carries more than 30,000 decorative tree leaves and is held by a steel structure of 1,000 honeycomb-shaped elements. The floor plan is open. Heating and cooling come mainly from geothermal and other renewable sources.
