The Higher Education Complex on Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale is shared by Florida Atlantic University and Broward College. FAU's School of Architecture teaches its upper-division Bachelor of Architecture students on the sixth, seventh and eighth floors.
A library photograph dated 1999 describes a 12-story, $18 million Higher Education Center designed by Singer Architects of Fort Lauderdale, on the site of the former Governor's Club Hotel. FAU also places its communication and multimedia school, its Institute for Design and Construction and a ground-floor gallery called MetroLAB in the complex.
Studios are large open rooms. Each upper-division student receives about 25 square feet (2.3 square meters) of private work area, plus a numbered desk, stool and storage unit for the term. No lectures are held in the studios.
