Higgins Hall stands at 61 St James Place in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, on Pratt Institute's campus. Two historic, landmarked masonry buildings, the north and south wings, stand side by side. The sources do not give their original architects or construction years.
Steven Holl Architects added a new center section between the wings, completed in 2005. Rogers Marvel Architects served as local architect. The two wings and the glass insertion form an H in plan. The wings' floor plates do not align, so the glass section meets them in a dissonant zone that marks the school entry.
A fire in 1996 damaged the complex. The new east and west courts are paved in red brick salvaged after that fire. The insertion adds about 22,500 square feet (2,090 square meters) of masonry and glass. The project architects were Steven Holl and Tim Bade. The building includes an auditorium and a lobby.
