Het Nieuwe Instituut stands at Museumpark 25 in central Rotterdam and was designed by Jo Coenen. Queen Beatrix opened it in 1993. The article gives no style, materials or construction dates for the building. Postmodernism is an assumption based on the date and the architect. The article places the building in central Rotterdam, beside a pond and small park.
It is the national collection for Dutch architecture and urban planning, and its archive holds over 18 kilometers of architectural resources. It has exhibition space for the Museum of Architecture, Design and Digital Culture, a study center, a shop, a bookshop and a cafe.
Sonneveld House, across the street, opened to the public in 2001. A pond and small park surround the institute, which sits next to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
