The Hepworth Wakefield sits on the south side of the River Calder. David Chipperfield won the design competition, and Laing O'Rourke built it. It opened on May 21, 2011, at a cost of 35 million pounds. The article calls the style brutalist and gives no client or construction dates.

The structure is ten trapezoidal blocks with 1,600 square meters of purpose-built gallery space. The facade uses self-compacting pigmented concrete made on site. Upper-level galleries are lit by natural light from large windows in pitched roofs.

The ground floor has a cafe bar, a learning studio, a 100-seat auditorium and a shop. It holds 44 plaster and aluminum working models from the Hepworth family.
