The Hazrat Sultan Mosque stands on the right bank of the Yesil River in Astana, next to the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation. Its name means "Holy Sultan" and refers to Khoja Ahmed Yasavi, the Sufi sheikh buried in Turkistan. Construction began in June 2009, and it opened on July 6, 2012.

The article describes a classical Islamic style with traditional Kazakh ornaments. The site covers more than 27 acres (11 ha), with 190,500 square feet (17,700 m²) of construction. The main dome is 167 feet (51 m) high and 92 feet (28.1 m) wide at the base, and eight smaller domes surround it. Four minarets stand 253 feet (77 m) high at the corners.

It holds 5,000 worshippers, and up to 10,000 on holidays. Facilities include space for ritual bathing and weddings, Quran reading halls and educational rooms.
