Hauser & Wirth Somerset is an art gallery at Durslade Farm in Bruton, Somerset. The farm operated until 1918, and its buildings date to as early as the 1760s. Iwan and Manuela Wirth bought the land about four years before the gallery opened in July 2014. Luis Laplace, a Paris-based architect, designed it with the local firm Benjamin and Beauchamp.
The project restored the old farm buildings and added two single-story brick buildings with zinc roofs. They close a cloistered courtyard and complete the gallery circuit. The site holds five gallery spaces, a bookshop, a classroom and an artist's residence. Sand-colored concrete columns replace crumbled structure.
The threshing barn became an exhibition space and keeps its internal walls and timber beams. Piet Oudolf planted a 6,000-square-meter (about 64,600-square-foot) meadow. Entry to the galleries and garden is free six days a week.
