The Harm A. Weber Academic Center is a four-story, 88,000-square-foot (8,200-square-meter) building at Judson University in Elgin, Illinois. It opened in summer 2007. Short & Associates won the university's design competition. Its three parts hold classrooms, academic offices and studios, and a library wing, joined by a bowtie-shaped link with a gallery.
The walls look like copper but use coated metal, because real copper risked theft and cost more. They stand four feet from the concrete structure so warm air can rise and draw cool air in. The roof is a reflective cool metal roof, and the building has photovoltaic panels.
It earned a LEED Gold rating. The university's catalog says it houses the Architecture, Interior Design, Art and Graphic Design studios and offices, along with a cafe, the Browne Library and the Draewell Gallery.
