Schmidt Hammer Lassen of Denmark and Fowler Bauld & Mitchell of Halifax were chosen in March 2010 through an international competition. It opened on December 13, 2014, at a cost of CA$57.6 million. The article names no style but compares the form to a stack of books.
The five-story building has about 120,000 square feet (11,000 m2). A fifth-floor cantilever projects over the entrance plaza, and a skylit atrium links the floors. Other spaces include a rooftop terrace and a 300-seat auditorium. It earned LEED Gold in 2016.
It won the Governor General's Medal in Architecture in 2016. The article gives no hours.
