Grodno Castle, known in German as Kynsburg, stands in Zagórze Śląskie in Lower Silesia, Poland, about 11 kilometers east of Wałbrzych. It sits on Choina Mountain, 450 meters high, on the left bank of the Bystrzyca River. Tradition holds that Duke Bolesław I the Tall built it in 1193. It was part of a network of fortresses forming a defensive line between the Duchy of Jawor and the Kingdom of Bohemia.
In the 16th century a gatehouse with sgraffito decoration was added, and a sundial clock was installed in 1716. Battles with the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War devastated the castle, and it gradually fell into ruin. A tower collapsed in the 19th century.
The Zedlitz family renovated and strengthened the castle. Its styles are Gothic and Renaissance. After 1945 it was renamed Zamek Grodno.
