Gould Hall stands at 3950 University Way NE in Seattle and serves as the home of the University of Washington College of Built Environments. It was built in 1971 and is named for Carl F. Gould, who founded the Department of Architecture and served as its first chair.
The architect Gene Zema and Professor Daniel Streissguth were the lead designers, working with Dale Benedict and professors Grant Hildebrand and Claus Seligmann. Einar Svensson and Professor Robert Albrecht were the structural engineers. The building is reinforced cast-in-place concrete, and a large skylit atrium called Gould Court serves as the college's gathering place.
The hall holds the Built Environments Library, a fabrication lab, a digital commons and the dean's office, along with the departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design and Planning. The public may visit Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
