Gardens by the Bay is a 260-acre (105 ha) park beside Marina Reservoir. A 2006 competition drew entries from 170 firms in 24 countries. Grant Associates designed Bay South Garden and led the Supertrees, with WilkinsonEyre on the conservatories. Gustafson Porter designed Bay East Garden. The master plan is inspired by an orchid, Singapore's national flower.
Bay South Garden opened on June 29, 2012. The Flower Dome is about 1.2 hectares, which the article calls the world's largest columnless glasshouse. Cloud Forest has a 138-foot (42 m) Cloud Mountain and a waterfall. Eighteen Supertrees, 82 to 164 feet (25–50 m) tall, carry solar cells and collect rainwater.
Construction stayed within a SG$1.035 billion budget. Most of the park is free, but the conservatories need tickets. The park drew over 50 million visitors by 2018.
