The Gallery of Modern Art stands at Stanley Place in South Brisbane, within the Queensland Cultural Centre on Kurilpa Point. Architectus of Sydney won an architect selection competition, and the Queensland government commissioned the design in July 2002. It cost about 107 million dollars and opened on December 2, 2006. The article names no style and gives no materials.

The design centers on a pavilion in the landscape that responds to the site, its topography and the river. The gallery faces the Brisbane River and the city center. Total floor area is over 25,000 square meters, and the largest gallery is 1,100 square meters.

It houses the Australian Cinémathèque and co-hosts the Asia-Pacific Triennial. It won the 2007 RAIA National Award for Public Architecture.
