The Galeries Lafayette flagship on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris was commissioned by Théophile Bader. Georges Chedanne led the first major renovations, completed in 1907, and his apprentice Ferdinand Chanut designed the dome. Pierre Patou renovated the store in 1932. The text gives 1912 for the dome and staircases, and it gives both 1905 and 1903 for the same Haussmann property acquisitions.
The article describes the original style as Art Nouveau, with an Art Deco renovation in 1932. The glass-and-steel dome is about 141 feet (43 m) high above Art Nouveau staircases. The store covers 750,000 square feet (70,000 square meters).
The Jewish owners were removed in the 1940 Aryanization, and a suspended Christmas tree has hung from the dome since 1976. A free fashion show is held on Fridays at 3 p.m. by reservation, and the rooftop has a bar, restaurant and terrace. The article gives no store hours.
