Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof was designed by Hermann Eggert, who won an 1881 competition for the entrance building, and Johann Wilhelm Schwedler, who designed the iron train halls. The article names no original client. The infobox and text agree on opening on August 18, 1888, after about five years of construction, with planning from around 1880.

The article describes a Renaissance Revival facade and neoclassical extensions from 1924. The train halls are steel and glass. The entrance building is 886 feet (270 m) wide, the train shed is 610 feet (186 m) long, and the three main halls are 184 feet (56 m) wide and 92 feet (28 m) high.

Wartime damage was heavy. Underground rail was built from 1971 and opened in 1978, and the roofs were renewed from 2002 to 2006. It is a long-distance, regional, S-Bahn, U-Bahn and tram hub. Daily passengers are 493,000 in the infobox and 460,000 in a table. The article gives no hours.
