FNB Stadium, also called Soccer City, stands in Nasrec, Johannesburg, and the City of Johannesburg owns it. The original stadium was built from 1987 to 1989 and opened on October 7, 1989. Boogertman & Partners and HOK Sport, now Populous, designed the upgrade, with Schlaich Bergermann & Partner as structural engineer. The upgrade was completed on October 21, 2009. The article names no style.

The design resembles an African calabash. The exterior cladding is a mosaic of fire and earth tones, with a ring of lights at the base suggesting fire under the pot. The pitch is 105 by 68 meters, and capacity is about 89,000 after the upgrade. The stadium has 195 executive suites.

It hosted the opening match and final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It also hosted Nelson Mandela's first Johannesburg speech after his 1990 release and his 2013 memorial service.
