The Fagus Factory in Alfeld, a shoe-last factory, was designed by Walter Gropius and Adolf Meyer for Carl Benscheidt, who founded the Fagus company in 1910. Eduard Werner made the original 1911 plan, and Gropius and Meyer took over the facade design that year. It was built from 1911 to 1913, with additions and interiors finished in 1925.

The article calls it early modern architecture, an inversion of Peter Behrens's 1909 AEG turbine factory. Glass corners show no visible structural supports, and floor-to-ceiling glass on steel frames sits above a dark brick base with yellow brick higher up. The main building has brick walls, reinforced wood floors and an unreinforced concrete basement.

A 1923 to 1925 expansion was never built, and work stopped in 1927 for financial reasons. The main building was renovated in the 1980s. The site covers 4.6 acres (1.88 ha), and UNESCO listed it in 2011. The article gives no visiting details.
