The East Beach Cafe at Sea Road in Littlehampton was Thomas Heatherwick's first building. The article says Jane Wood and Sophie Murray commissioned it, a claim tagged citation needed, and that they own it. It gives no construction or opening date, though a source from 2007 is cited. Steelwork was by Littlehampton Welding, and the site work by Langridge Developments. The article names no style and calls the silhouette unconventional.

The cafe is 130 feet (40 m) long, 23 feet (7 m) wide and 16 feet (5 m) high. The inland-facing side has no windows. The shape was meant to protect views from a nearby conservation area while offering sea views.

It won a RIBA regional prize in 2008, the 2009 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards exterior space category and Coastal Cafe of the Year in 2011.
