Cowgill Hall at 1325 Perry Street is the main building of Virginia Tech's School of Architecture + Design and the administrative home of its college. Henry V. Shriver, a 1952 Virginia Tech graduate, designed it in the modern style. The sources do not give its completion year.
It has four stories and about 63,000 square feet (5,850 square meters) of reinforced concrete, set into a hilltop on the northwest edge of campus. The facade is symmetrical, with six-foot precast panels and bronze aluminum mullions. Cantilevered floor slabs sit on a 32-foot column grid, and movable walls give flexible studios.
In 2006 it won the Virginia Society of the AIA Test of Time Award, given to a building that has worked as designed for at least 25 years. It is named for Clinton Harriman Cowgill, who founded the architectural engineering department in 1928.
