The Co-Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Prešov is one of the oldest and most important churches in Slovakia. It was built in the mid-fourteenth century on thirteenth-century foundations. A fire in 1418 destroyed much of it, and a Late Gothic reconstruction led by the builder John Brengyszeyna followed from 1502 to 1515.
The church is a three-nave hall church, about 179 feet (54.7 meters) long and 113 feet (34.45 meters) wide, with a polygonal presbytery under net and stellar vaults. Its tower rises 233 feet (71 meters). The tower was rebuilt in Neo-Gothic style in 1903 and 1904 by Frigyes Schulek.
Inside, the main altar was made between 1490 and 1506, and fourteen painted wing-altar panels survive. The Renaissance choir stalls date from 1568 and 1569, and a large organ was built in 1634. Repairs followed fires in 1711 and 1788.
