The Clérigos Church in Porto was designed by Nicolau Nasoni, an Italian architect and painter, for the Brotherhood of the Clérigos. Construction began in 1732 and the church was finished in 1750. The bell tower was built from 1754 to 1763, the same year the monumental divided stairway was completed. The infobox gives 1750 as completion.
The Baroque nave has an almost elliptical plan, one of the first in Portuguese Baroque churches. The main facade has an indented, broken pediment based on an early 17th-century Roman scheme, with garlands and shells. The main chapel's altarpiece is polychromed marble by Manuel dos Santos Porto.
The tower is 248 feet (75.6 m) high, with six floors and 240 steps, and its design is said to draw on Tuscan campaniles and Roman Baroque. In June 2015 the Brotherhood announced that the tower and church would open at night.
