The Cláudio Santoro National Theater in Brasília was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, and the Federal District owns it. Construction began on July 30, 1960 and was structurally complete by January 30, 1961, then paused until early 1966. The infobox gives completion in 1966, but the text says March 1979. The style is Modern. It is a truncated pyramid and the largest Niemeyer building in Brasília designed for the arts.
It has three venues: the Alberto Nepomuceno with 60 seats, the Martins Pena with 407 and the Villa-Lobos with 1,407. A public exhibition gallery and an annex with offices and rehearsal rooms opened on June 24, 1981.
The complex reopened on April 21, 1981 and was renamed for Cláudio Santoro on September 1, 1989. A renovation began in January 2014 after irregularities were flagged, and budget limits kept it largely closed for about a decade. It reopened in December 2024. The article gives no hours.
