The City Palace in Jaipur was designed by the Bengali architect Vidyadar Bhattacharya for Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, built after the court moved from Amber in 1727. The infobox gives construction as starting in 1729, while the text says soon after the city's founding and the 1727 move. Both give completion in 1732.
The article describes Rajput, Mughal and European influences, laid out under vastushastra principles. The complex has painted pink stucco, white marble and beige stone in the Mubarak Mahal and marble columns in the Sabha Niwas. The Chandra Mahal has seven floors, and two sterling silver Gangajali urns stand 5 feet 3 inches (1.6 m) tall.
It houses the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum and is still the royal family's home. The public enters through Udai Pol and Virendra Pol, and Tripolia is reserved for the royal family. Day hours are 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with night visits from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
