The China Pavilion at Expo 2010 was designed by He Jingtang, then 72, director of the Architectural Academy at South China University of Technology. It stands on Shangnan Road in Pudong. Construction began on December 18, 2007, and it was inaugurated on February 8, 2010. The article calls the style traditional dougong, inspired by the dougong roof bracket and the Chinese ding vessel. It is nicknamed the Oriental Crown.

Four giant columns carry an inverted pyramid body. The exterior is painted in seven shades of Chinese red. A 27,000 square meter rooftop garden crowns it, and the roof is 139.8 meters (459 feet) square.

It reopened on October 1, 2012 as the China Art Museum, described as the largest art museum in Asia.
