The Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima was designed by Tadao Ando for the Fukutake Foundation, a project of Benesse Corporation. Soichiro Fukutake is Benesse's president and the museum's director. The sources give no construction dates, only an opening on July 18, 2004.

The museum is built underground into the island's southern portion and designed around natural light, which changes the exhibits through the day. The article states no building materials or floor area. Granite, mahogany, gold leaf and concrete appear only in the artwork Time/Timeless/No Time. The Chichu Garden between the ticket center and the main building has Monet-inspired plants and ponds, about 4,300 square feet (400 m²).

It holds permanent installations by Walter De Maria and James Turrell, plus Monet's Water Lilies series. The article does not give hours or fees.
