The Chicago Board of Trade Building was designed by Holabird & Root for the Chicago Board of Trade, commissioned in 1925 and opened on June 9, 1930, replacing an 1885 predecessor demolished in 1929. Alvin Meyer did the facade sculpture, and John H. Storrs sculpted the Ceres statue. The text gives $11.3 million to build, though a reported mortgage was $12 million.
It is Art Deco, clad in gray Indiana limestone, with a copper pyramid roof topped by an aluminum Ceres statue about 31 feet (9.4 m) tall. It has 44 stories and is 604 feet (184 m) high in the infobox and lead, and 605 feet in the construction section.
Helmut Jahn's postmodern annex came in 1980, and a $20 million renovation in 2005. The original trading floor was demolished in 2004. CME Group's sale is dated 2012 in the lead and April 23, 2013 in the body.
