The Château de La Brède is a feudal castle in La Brède, in the Gironde department of France. It stands in the middle of a Bordeaux vineyard. Construction in the Gothic style began in 1306 on the site of an earlier castle.
It is surrounded by water-filled moats and an English garden, and it has kept the character of a fortress despite later changes. The philosopher Montesquieu, who lived from 1689 to 1755, was born there, lived there and wrote most of his works there. Visitors can see his library, whose books have been moved to Bordeaux, and his bedroom, both preserved as they were in the 18th century.
In 2004 the Countess of Chabannes, a descendant of Montesquieu, left the castle to a foundation named after her. It is a monument historique.
