Château de Ferrières was designed by Joseph Paxton for Baron James de Rothschild, who bought the property in 1829 and reportedly told Paxton to build him a Mentmore, but twice the size. The infobox and text agree on construction from 1855 to 1859. It was inaugurated on December 16, 1862 with a gala attended by Napoleon III.
The article calls the style Neo-Renaissance, in the Goût Rothschild, with square corner towers. The central hall is about 121 feet (37 m) long and 59 feet (18 m) high, with a full glass skylight roof and caryatids by Charles Henri Joseph Cordier. The gardens cover 1.25 square kilometers.
German forces seized it in 1870 and 1871, when Bismarck and Favre negotiated there, and again in World War II, when it was looted. It was donated to the University of Paris in 1975 and has housed École Ferrières since 2015. The article gives no public access or hours.
