The Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral, known as GAM, stands at 227 Avenida Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins in Santiago. It was the Diego Portales Building, built as headquarters for the third UNCTAD conference in 1972. The article names no architect, style or materials. It has a convention center and an adjoining 22-story building.

Several thousand volunteers finished the building in 275 days, part of a propaganda effort by Salvador Allende's socialist government. After the conference it served as a cultural center until the 1973 coup. Later it hosted conventions, and the tower became the main building of the Ministry of National Defense.

A fire in 2006 destroyed parts of the building, and Michelle Bachelet's government returned it to cultural use. It was inaugurated in September 2010. It now stages contemporary drama, dance and music and houses visual arts. The article gives no hours or admission details.
