The CBS Building in Manhattan was designed by Eero Saarinen, his only skyscraper, for CBS. After Saarinen died in September 1961, Kevin Roche, Joseph Lacy and John Dinkeloo took over the design. The infobox gives construction from 1961 to 1965, while the body gives a 1962 start and occupancy from late 1964. The infobox lists Modernist, but the body does not use that label.
The 38-story building is 491 feet (150 m) tall. It has a reinforced concrete structure, with steel only for girders over a subway tunnel. Triangular, angled piers of dark Canadian granite alternate with dark glass, giving the Black Rock look. It has no setbacks and fills only 60% of its site. The recessed plaza has no seating.
It became a city landmark in 1997. Harbor Group International bought it in 2021 for 760 million dollars and rebranded it 51W52. A lobby and amenity renovation finished in April 2024. The article gives no public hours.
