The Cathedral of the Holy Name of Mary in Minsk is a Baroque church built in 1710 for the Jesuit College. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Minsk-Mohilev. The Jesuit order was suppressed in 1773, and the church became the local cathedral after the diocese was created. A fire damaged it heavily in 1797, and it was fully renewed.
The Minsk diocese was liquidated in 1869 and restored in November 1917. The cathedral was closed in 1934, allowed to function again under the German occupation, and closed again after the war. In 1951, Soviet artillery destroyed its bell towers on purpose, and the building was given to the Spartak sports society.
Services resumed in the early 1990s, and the building returned to Roman Catholics in 1993. It was renovated by 1997. In 2005, an Austrian-made organ was installed and the 18th-century frescoes were restored.
