The Casa das Histórias Paula Rego in Cascais was designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, whom Paula Rego chose personally. She wanted it to be fun, lively and a bit mischievous. The museum was established in 2009, and the article gives no construction dates. It stands on former disused tennis courts of the Sporting Club of Cascais.
The design reinterprets regional historical architecture, especially from the nearby Palace of Sintra. Red-tinted concrete forms four wings of varying heights, with two pyramid-shaped towers, around a central temporary-exhibition space. Mature park trees are built into the design.
It has 750 square meters of exhibition space and a 200-seat auditorium. The collection holds Rego's paintings, drawings and etchings across about 50 years.
