Cape Town Stadium stands in Green Point, between Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean, near the city center and the V&A Waterfront. The joint venture GMP Architects, Louis Karol Architects and Point Architects designed it, with urban designer Henri Comrie. The City of Cape Town owns it through the municipal entity Cape Town Stadium. Murray & Roberts and WBHO built it. The article names no style.

Groundbreaking was on March 26, 2007, and the stadium opened on December 14, 2009. It cost R4.4 billion. Capacity was reduced from 64,100 to 55,000 after the 2010 World Cup. The pitch is 125 by 68 meters, and it was relaid in 2023 as hybrid turf, half synthetic and half grass.

The stadium has corporate hospitality suites, event suites, clubrooms and conferencing and banqueting facilities. A fanwalk pedestrian route links it to the central city.
