Canton Tower in Guangzhou's Haizhu District was designed by Information Based Architecture, led by Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit, with Arup as structural engineer. The Guangzhou New Television Tower Group built it. The design won a competition in 2004, construction started in November 2005, and it topped out in August 2009. The infobox gives opening on September 30, 2010, while the text says October 1.

The article calls the style structural expressionism. The tip reaches 1,975 feet (602 m), and the roof is at 1,516 feet (462.2 m). It has 112 floors above ground and two basements.

It was the world's tallest free-standing tower from August 2009 to March 2011. A rooftop observatory opened in December 2011, and the first concert was held on December 24, 2012. It holds a restaurant, observation decks and telecommunications equipment. The article gives no hours or ticket prices.
