The Calgary Central Library in the East Village was designed by Snøhetta with DIALOG, whose joint bid won a 2013 competition. The Calgary Public Library owns and operates it, and the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation developed it. Above-ground construction began in September 2015, and it opened on November 1, 2018. The cost was CA$245 million, and the article names no style.
The four-story building covers 240,000 square feet (22,000 m2) and straddles a light rail tunnel, with a 443-foot (135 m) section encapsulated. It has a textured facade, fritted glass panels and wood-clad arches at the entrance. A central atrium rises to a skylight.
Inside are shelves for 450,000 titles, a 340-seat theatre and a cafe. Awards include a 2020 AIA Architecture Award and the 2019 AIA/ALA Library Building Award. The article gives no hours.
