Building 7 houses the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona, at University Drive and Camphor Lane. Carl Maston designed it, and it was completed in 1971. The Los Angeles Conservancy describes the Brutalist building as made of exposed concrete, brick and glass.
Two two-story wings meet at a right angle and shelter a paved entrance plaza. Each wing has a central interior space with large staircases. Wide brick towers hold service areas and join longer horizontal concrete volumes that jut outward. The first floor is mostly floor-to-ceiling glass.
The upper floor sits on narrow concrete columns, and vertical and horizontal concrete fins shade its windows. The concrete volumes contain offices, studios and common spaces. The building houses the landscape architecture, urban planning and architecture departments. Maston is known for Modern designs including garden apartments and shopping centers.
