Brooks Hall stands on the NC State campus in Raleigh, on the site of the first three dormitories, built in 1892 to 1894. Hobart Brown Upjohn designed it, and it was completed in 1926 as the D.H. Hill Library, the first dedicated library building on campus.
After a larger library opened in 1953, the building went to the School of Design. It was renamed in 1956 for Eugene Clyde Brooks. The Matsumoto wing to the north was completed in 1956, with F. Carter Williams as architect of record and George Matsumoto as design architect. The Cameron wing to the south followed in 1966.
The School of Design was consolidated here from Patterson Hall, 111 Lampe Drive and the Barracks. The building has the Carol Groatnes Belk Rotunda, the Design Library with a slide room, and the William Keating Bayley Information Technology Laboratory, renovated in 2014.
