Boston City Hall was designed by Kallmann McKinnell & Knowles, with Campbell, Aldrich & Nulty as associates and LeMessurier as structural engineer, for the City of Boston. Groundbreaking was on September 18, 1963. The infobox lists an opening on December 18, 1967, but the text says that was when Mayor Collins moved in and the official opening was delayed. The dedication was on February 11, 1969.
The style is Brutalist, with brick below, concrete above, bronze window frames and brownstone copings. The building measures 322 by 250 feet at ground level, with nine stories and 513,000 square feet inside.
Renovations came in 1981 to 1984, 2018 and the 2020s, including a 60 million dollar plaza renovation finished in 2022. Boston gave it Landmark designation in 2025. Proposals to sell or relocate it in 2006 to 2008 and 2013 were not carried out. The article gives no visitor hours.
