BMW Welt in Munich was designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au, a Vienna-based firm that won the contract after a 2001 competition, in which Sauerbruch Hutton also took first prize. BMW sponsored the competition. Construction ran from August 2003 to summer 2007 and cost US$200 million. It opened on October 17, 2007, with deliveries starting on October 23. It was originally meant to be ready for the 2006 World Cup.
The article names no style or main materials. The building combines exhibition, delivery and event space, a showroom for BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, shops and a restaurant, with an 800 kW rooftop solar system. It stands next to Olympic Park and near BMW's headquarters.
It drew 2.2 million visitors in its first 12 months and 2.93 million in 2013. The Canadian Centre for Architecture holds the architect's project records. The article gives no hours.
